Primary school pupils from across Cardiff came together at Techniquest for a celebration of children’s rights hosted by Child Friendly Cardiff. The event launched “How to Change the World“, a new social action toolkit designed to empower young people to take charge of issues that matter to them, from community cleanliness to playground safety. Pupils participated in hands-on activities, brainstorming ideas and creating action plans to bring positive changes to their schools and communities.
This event supports Cardiff’s Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) initiative, which already includes 102 of Cardiff’s 128 schools. With the goal of having all primary schools engaged, Child Friendly Cardiff aims to build a strong community focused on children’s rights and social action. Cardiff’s recent status as the UK’s first UNICEF Child Friendly City makes it more important than ever to ensure young voices are heard and empowered.
By launching the “”How to Change the World“” toolkit, Cardiff Council are equipping teachers and pupils with the tools they need to bring real change. The toolkit, developed with input from schools, connects students’ rights-based projects with local decision-makers, ensuring their voices make a lasting impact. This initiative helps schools progress towards silver and gold RRSA status and supports Wales’s new curriculum, making rights education an essential part of learning. Through events like this, Cardiff Council is working toward a future where every child feels valued, included, and capable of creating a better Cardiff for themselves and their community.
