What Happened?

Cardiff Youth Council recently collaborated with Welsh Women’s Aid to provide valuable feedback on a new module designed to address misogyny among children and young people. The consultation, organised by Child Friendly Cardiff, brought together members of the Youth Council’s Gender Equity Group to critically assess the module’s content. Their insights were sought to ensure that the material is relevant, engaging, and appropriate for its intended audience.

Why?

This consultation was a vital step in ensuring the anti-misogyny module is both impactful and resonant with young people. With the rise of misogynistic attitudes and behaviours, it’s crucial that educational resources are shaped by those who will benefit most from them. Child Friendly Cardiff facilitated this collaboration to amplify the voices of young people in Cardiff, ensuring their perspectives are integral to the module’s development. This effort aligns with the larger mission of creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all children and young people in our city.

So What?

The Gender Equity Steering Group provided valuable feedback through engaging in deep discussions and providing an insight into how misogyny plays out in the lives of young people. This consultation not only enhanced the quality of the module but also demonstrated the importance of involving youth in discussions about social issues that directly affect them. As this module rolls out to more young people, it is expected to play a key role in combating misogyny and promoting gender equity. This initiative underscores Cardiff’s commitment to being a Child Friendly City, where young people’s voices are heard and valued in the creation of meaningful change.
