At Child Friendly Cardiff, we believe that young people who experience periods have the right to a safe and dignified experience. Periods can have a big impact on education and physical and mental health, and everyone should be able to access period products, information, and support without barriers. Furthermore, eradicating period poverty means ensuring that those who having a period does not lead to missed education or withdrawal from sport and social activities.
In line with the recently published Period Proud Wales Action Plan, Cardiff is currently working alongside the ‘Love your Period’ campaign and the Healthy Schools teams to ensure:
- A consistent and dignified access to free products and information in hubs and youth services across the city, through coproduced staff/user guidance and a central location mapping tool.
- Schools are supported to bring about a cultural shift in relation to period dignity through the development of a two-tiered, school recognition scheme called “The Period Standard”.
